LEGO Serious Play
A creative method to develop ideas, explore complex thinking and create solutions.
Born and raised in Achiltibuie, it was inevitable that the crofting way of life would call.
Lindsay Dunbar FRSA has 15 years of experience as a strategic leader, project manager and innovation producer, Lindsay nurtures and tends to creative projects in rural areas. Selected as the Creative Scotland Fellow 17/18 for the Clore Leadership programme, she explored a values-led process, addressing issues of representation and accessible ways of working for all.
She is an accredited LEGO® SERIOUS PLAY® facilitator and coach, she is experienced in facilitating workshops and sessions with a variety of people, from industry professionals to community members.
Why the crofting approach?
Community: Crofters are an important part of their communities, and they often work together to share resources and knowledge.
Sustainability: Crofting is a sustainable form of work that is well-suited to the harsh conditions of the Highlands and Islands.
Traditional skills: Crofting helps to preserve traditional skills and knowledge, which are an important part of Scottish culture.
What can the crofting approach overcome?
Remoteness: Crofts are often located in remote areas, which can make it difficult to access markets and services.
Climate: The Highlands and Islands have a harsh climate, which can make it difficult to nurture certain ideas or environments.
Markets: Crofters often face competition from larger organisations, which can make it difficult to demonstrate the unique offer from a rural area.
Who has worked with Culture Croft?
Coaching
Based on her own experience of coaching, Lindsay became an accredited RD1st coach in 2020. Since then she has been supporting the creative sector through this approach. She has seen how transformational coaching can be, to have the space to be heard and to work through challenges. In 2021, she co-founded Coaching for Creatives with Jeanie Scott.
What is coaching?
Coaching is about being alongside you as you develop your own thinking. It supports and challenges you, enabling you to identify and clarify your own goals, developing plans to achieve them. The coach is not there to offer advice, mentoring or sign-posting. Coaching focuses on creating space to explore and pursue thinking in a safe way. Coaching can take the form of a structured conversation or coaching ‘session’ where you are encouraged to think for yourself, in a space that allows you to explore your ideas, focus on actions and be listened to.
Who is it for?
Coaching can help with personal development, becoming unstuck, dealing with complex issues with a goal orientated approach, leading to increased confidence as well as finding a direction through challenging times.
“I am so grateful for my coaching experience, the insights and processes I gained throughout the process are going to be with me for life.
I found Lindsay’s approach to suit me incredibly well, her approach aligned with previous therapy and counselling I’ve experienced but had never applied to my work life. She was wonderful, supportive and asked all the right questions. I never could have leapt so far by myself, and I am so excited for the next year as I see the outcomes of my new insights.
It led me to breakthroughs in areas I’ve been stuck on for years and I’m already seeing the progress. I cannot speak highly enough of this approach to coaching, it was so effective in such a short space of time. ”
